Bangalore Metro: BMRCL Takes Steps to Extend Metro Rail to Bidadi

Bengaluru, July 21: For many days, we have been hearing about the metro train running to Ramnagar. BMRCL has taken the first step to connect the metro rail to Bidadi by inviting a tender for the preparation of a feasibility study report.

On July 9, BMRCL invited a tender worth Rs 1.59 crore. The tender has been awarded to a Hyderabad-based company to prepare a feasibility study report for expanding the metro project on a total of three lines.

In February this year, BMRCL completed 50 km of metro lines. The tender was invited to prepare a feasibility study report on the expansion of our metro project along a 68 km stretch and the construction of a new 68 km stretch. Now, the tender has been finalized.

According to the BMRCL report, the extended route includes Challaghatta-Bidadi (15 km), Silk Institute-Harohalli (24 km), and Bommasandra-Attibele (11 km). The new route includes Kalena Agrahara-Kadugodi Tree Park via Jigani, Sanekal, Attibele, Sarjapur, and Varthur (52.41 km).

On June 29th, a 52.41 km extension of our metro rail project was awarded to the Hyderabad-based company Tumkur. A separate tender was issued for the preparation of the Feasibility Study Report.

A feasibility study report is prepared before investing in any project. This report includes a preliminary study of the project, as well as technical, social, and economic aspects. Once this report is finalized, a Detailed Project Report (DPR) will be prepared.

The Karnataka Government will decide whether to extend our metro project to Bidadi based on the feasibility study report. If the report is approved, BMRCL will invite a separate tender to prepare the Detailed Project Report (DPR).

In November 2023, Deputy Chief Minister D. K. Shivakumar participated in a program held at the Bidadi Toyota unit, where he discussed plans to expand our metro rail project further.

The government is also working to attract industry and investments to the outskirts of Bangalore city. Bidadi has been transformed into an industrial hub to alleviate pressure on Bangalore. Similarly, BMRCL is considering extending metro connectivity to the outer zones.

BMRCL has already announced two packages for expanding our metro project: the first stage includes 50 km, and the second phase encompasses three corridors totaling 60 km.

Every day, thousands of people travel from Bangalore city to Bidadi. The government has already restructured the Bidadi Planning Authority, renaming it the Greater Bangalore Development Authority. Many plans are underway for the development of Bidadi.

With a large industrial area in Bidadi employing over 100,000 people, local representatives have urged the government to extend the metro line for the convenience of daily commuters from Bangalore.

A survey is being conducted to determine whether to extend our metro connection. BMRCL will send the proposal to the state government for a final decision.
