Metro Expansion Projects in Hebbal

Bengaluru, July 22: Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited has requested the state government to transfer 45.5 acres of land, currently belonging to the Karnataka Industrial Area Development Board (KIADB), at Hebbal for the construction of a state-of-the-art multi-modal transport hub. KIADB acquired 55.1 acres of land in Hebbal some years ago for a project by Lake View Tourism Company Limited, which has not yet commenced.

The land is now deemed suitable for a transport hub, and KIADB has requested the government to transfer it for the development of a multi-storied car parking building, a modern depot, and other infrastructure.

KIADB has already acquired 55 acres and 13 guntas for Lake View Tourism Company Limited. BMRCL has acquired 6,712 square meters of land for the construction of the Blue Line of the metro at the rate fixed by KIADB, which is Rs 12 crore per acre.

However, the landlords who own flats in KIADB are yet to be compensated. As a result, this vast area of land remains vacant, and BMRCL has stated in the letter that it is ready to bear the cost of Rs 550 crore.

BMRCL has proposed to build three metro lines in Hebbal, including the Blue, Orange, and Red lines. Two metro stations will be constructed at Kempapura on the Blue and Orange lines. Consequently, Hebbal is set to become a major transport hub in the future, accommodating metro, suburban train, and city bus operations.

The land owned by KIADB is well-suited for the construction of this transport hub, which will also include multi-level car parking and a small depot. Initially, it is planned to be used for metro trains.

BMRCL is awaiting central approval to start work on the metro Orange Line, which will extend from J.P. Nagar Phase 4 to Kempapura, and has begun the process of land acquisition.

JP Properties have been identified from Nagar 4th Stage to Mysore Road, and a preliminary notification will be issued soon. A joint survey of properties from Mysore Road to Hebbal is also in progress.

A total of 777 properties have been identified for acquisition. The project covers a distance of 32 km. According to sources, 129,743 square meters of land is required for the construction of various components, including long elevated corridors and metro stations, and the acquisition process will be completed soon.
