Double Decker Flyover Bangalore: South India’s first double-decker flyover is all set to inaugurate. Know the complete information about its benefits, how much it costs and when it will be launched here.
Bangalore is a big city not known for traffic jams. Especially at the city’s Silk Board Junction, motorists are getting harassed by the traffic jam every day. Now a double-decker flyover is ready to control the traffic jam in this part.
The new flyover will help control vehicular traffic at the Central Silk Board Junction in South Bengaluru. The 3.36 km long flyover will start from Ragigudda Metro station and extend up to Silk Board Junction. According to sources, it will open in December this year.
The flyover will have a total of five ramps. Work on two slopes (D and E) is still underway and is expected to be completed by May 2025. This 2+2-lane flyover is designed to facilitate smooth traffic.
It will include three U-turns with three metro stations (Jayadeva Hospital, BTM Layout, and Silk Board Junction), though passengers will not be able to enter the metro stations directly from the flyover.

All signs and road markings have been completed and traffic information boards have also been installed.
Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) Chief Public Relations Officer BL Yashwant Chavan said the aim is to make Silk Board Junction signal-free. He mentioned that providing direct access to metro stations would lead to traffic jams.
Chavan noted that the construction of the D and E ramps is challenging due to traffic congestion. A few pillars have been erected in an attempt to minimize public inconvenience.
BMR CL Executive Engineer Satish Kumar said, ‘The flyover work started in September 2017 and since then we have faced many challenges at Jayadeva Hospital Junction.
Assistant Commissioner of Police T. Mahadeva explained that morning traffic will be reduced on the flyover from Ragigudda and BTM layout to Hosur Road and HSR layout. He said that the flyover would reduce the travel time connecting West Bengaluru from 30-45 minutes to just 5 minutes.
Mahadeva warned that the incomplete ramps D and E may have a minor impact on traffic during the evening rush hour. Vehicles from Hosur Road take a left turn towards BTM Layout, while vehicles from HSR Layout proceed through Service Road to Hosur Road.
According to a survey conducted by the traffic police two years ago, 46,000 vehicles ply through Silk Board Junction daily from 6 am to 10 pm.
The traffic police are thinking of closing the flyover from 10 pm to 5 am to prevent accidents. A watchtower at the end of Ramp A is necessary to assist in road accidents and emergencies.
Krishnan Kuppaswamy, a passenger, expressed concern that the traffic will increase from the new flyover to the HSR layout to Marathahalli and there will be trouble at Silkboard Junction.
