Tragic Loss in Bengaluru: 15-Year-Old Bengaluru Girl Dies After Construction Site Accident
Bengaluru witnessed a heartbreaking incident on a fateful Saturday when Tejaswini Rao, a bright and talented 15-year-old schoolgirl, succumbed to injuries caused by a wooden pole falling from a construction site. The mishap occurred near the bustling National College Metro Station on National High School Road, sparking widespread anger and calls for stricter construction safety measures.
The Incident Unfolded
Tejaswini, a Class 10 student at Vasavi Vidyaniketan and a resident of Kempegowda Nagar, was walking home from school when disaster struck. Around 12:45 pm, a wooden survey pole supporting scaffolding on the sixth floor of an under-construction building collapsed and fell on her. Despite being rushed to Victoria Hospital and later to NIMHANS, she tragically succumbed to her injuries the same day.
Family and Community Outrage
Her grieving father, Sudhakar Rao, a cab driver, filed a formal complaint, alleging negligence on the part of the building’s owner and the construction engineer. “This could have been avoided if proper safety measures were in place,” lamented Parvathy, Tejaswini’s aunt. The incident has reignited discussions about accountability and safety at construction sites.
Legal and Police Action
The VV Puram police registered a case under Section 106(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita Act, citing death due to negligence. The area was cordoned off, and the police seized the wooden pole as evidence. Authorities are now examining CCTV footage and awaiting forensic reports to determine the precise cause of the accident. Meanwhile, they have mandated the implementation of additional safety measures, including safety nets, to protect pedestrians.
A Wake-Up Call for Bengaluru
This tragedy sheds light on the alarming lack of safety protocols at construction sites across Bengaluru. The bustling VV Puram area, frequented by schoolchildren and commuters, highlights the dangers posed by negligent construction practices. This isn’t an isolated case; similar incidents, like the anganwadi building collapse in Kolar, underline the pressing need for enforcement of stringent safety standards.

Time for Accountability
The incident serves as a grim reminder of the cost of negligence.
