CM Siddaramaiah has proposed to build 50 new Indira canteens in Bangalore city

Bangalore, 04 June: Indira Canteen service was announced for the first time in 2013 under Siddaramaiah led Congress government, Indira canteen was opened in different districts of Karnataka, and later in 2018, the BJP government closed down Indira Canteen for many reasons,

As of now 2023, the Siddaramaiah-led Congress government which has returned to power with an absolute majority has promised to revive the Indira Canteen again, Indira Canteen is Siddaramaiah’s dream project and now discussions have started to revive the project.

Siddaramaiah told a press conference that the existing Indira canteens in Bangalore city will be restarted, and one Indira canteen will be opened in each ward of BBMP, which means 50 new Indira canteens will be created, and BBMP will take charge of the Indira canteen in Bengaluru.

50 new Indira canteens in Bangalore city

Notice to report: 

Siddaramaiah, who was recently elected as the new chief minister, said that he had asked the officials to submit a report on the Indira canteen and that the decisions to be taken would be taken based on that report.

A canteen has been built under the scheme of one Indira Canteen for Ward in Bengaluru city, and there are a total of 20 mobile Indira canteens in Bengaluru city,

Apart from these, Siddaramaiah has proposed to build 50 new Indira canteens by 2023 at major congested places in the city, such as Vidhana Soudha, Vikas Soudha, multi-storied buildings, etc. They have plans to build.

Bangalore city which currently has 198 BBMP wards is increasing to 243 wards, so BBMP plans to build 50 new Indira canteens.

The Congress government has prepared a proposal to change the food menu in the canteen and also offer Ragi Mudde and corn roti.

Grant for Indira Canteen: It is expected that the Indira Canteen grant will be announced in the Karnataka budget to be held in the first week of July,

The Congress party had mentioned in its manifesto during the 2023 assembly elections that it would revive the Indira Canteen and had assured that the Indira Canteen would be implemented within the initial days of government formation if the party came to power.

Accordingly, Finance Minister and Honorable Chief Minister Siddaramaiah will present the Karnataka budget in the first week of July, during which the grant for Indira Canteen is likely to be announced.
