“Revival of Bangalore Peripheral Ring Road Project as Bangalore Business Corridor: Progress, Challenges and Concerns of Farmers”.
Bangalore Business Corridor: The Alternative Ring Road (PRR) running on the outskirts of Bangalore city, which has been a laughing stock for the past many years, has now been renamed as Bangalore Business Corridor (BBC). Besides, Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) has also invited global tender for the construction of a 73 km long 8-lane road passing through 77 villages.
Bangalore, Jan 25: The Peripheral Ring Road project, which has been stalled for decades, has been renamed as ‘Bangalore Business Corridor’ (BBC), and the Bangalore Development Authority has invited global tenders for the construction of the road, 100 meters wide, 73 km connecting Tumkur Road and Hosur Road. A long road is intended to be constructed. It is an 8-lane road.
Although tenders were called twice for the construction of the peripheral ring road in 2022, no one showed interest. In addition, there was a lot of confusion in the issue of land compensation to the farmers. Hence the project is delayed.
It has been decided to speed up the project to reduce traffic congestion in Silicon City. Therefore, a global tender has been called to carry out the work in a private-public partnership.
The 73 km long Bangalore Business Corridor Road passes through 77 villages. BDA has already identified 2,596 acres of land for this. It has been decided to award the contract to a company that has qualified in a global tender process. Also, farmers who give up land for roads will be compensated as per the BDA Act.
The eight-lane Bangalore Business Corridor is an access-controlled expressway connecting Tumkur Road and Hosur Road through 77 villages including Harshemaghatta Road, Doddaballapur Road, Bellary Road, Hennur Road, Old Madras Road, Hoskote Road and Sarjapur.
21 thousand crores to provide relief to farmers. And about 5-6 crores for road construction. 27 thousand crores including cost. The cost is estimated.
The notification for the construction of PRR was issued in 2007. If the road had already been constructed, the project cost would not have increased. An inquiry was held in the court regarding this project and an order came to continue the land acquisition process.
The new land acquisition law does not apply to BDA. The Supreme Court has ruled that land acquisition should be done according to the old law. Accordingly, it has been decided to take up the process of land acquisition and give compensation to the farmers.
Ordinance for land compensation
The Supreme Court verdict is against the interest of the farmers and the government should provide compensation to the farmers as per the 2013 Act through an ordinance. The judgment in favor of BDA is a case of BDA vs. Govt., in which none of the farmers are petitioners. Therefore, many farmers have demanded that this judgment should be abandoned and the farmers should be helped.
