Bangalore Airport: On December 13, a 24-year-old man from Kodagu was arrested in Bengaluru for illegally transporting gold paste worth Rs 55 lakh, cleverly concealed in jeans and underwear.
Bengaluru, December 13: A 24-year-old man from Kodagu has been arrested for illegally transporting gold paste worth Rs 55 lakh hidden in jeans and underwear. The Kodagu-based youth landed at the Kempegowda International Airport on Sunday (December 10) on Indigo Airlines Flight 6E 1486 from Dubai (UAE). The airport customs officials discovered the gold during their routine checks when the man started behaving suspiciously.

Prompted by his erratic behavior, customs officials decided to search the young man’s luggage, which led to the discovery of bags containing gold paste sewn near the waist of his black jeans. A total of 907 grams of gold paste was seized from the person and he is now facing charges of smuggling and customs duty evasion.
The incident follows heightened vigilance at the Kempegowda International Airport, where authorities are cracking down on illegal activities including gold smuggling. Recently, in a separate case, two persons were arrested and 298 grams of gold jewelry was seized.
