Bengaluru Police Efficiency with Instant CCTV Footage Access

Bengaluru: To speed up the investigation of crime cases, a system has been developed under the ‘Safe City Project’ allowing investigators to view footage from 7,500 CCTV cameras in the city through their mobile phones.

An app named Bangalore Safe City Operation Flat has been developed to facilitate the transfer of CCTV footage to investigators’ mobile phones. ACPs of the city have been allowed to use this app on a trial basis for the past month.

The police also rely on Safe City cameras to investigate crime cases in the city. These cameras help in many aspects, including identifying the faces of the accused and the vehicles used in the crimes.

However, obtaining footage from these cameras previously required submitting a written request to the command center, which was time-consuming. To reduce this delay, an app has been designed to transmit the necessary CCTV footage to investigators’ mobile phones.

How to benefit the police?

Using the Bangalore Safe City Operation Flat Inspector App, investigators can enter the Safe City camera number and specify the required time frame. The command center will then immediately send the requested footage to the investigator through the app.

A senior police officer stated that police investigators would get the necessary footage quickly, speeding up the investigation process.

Currently, a maximum of 15 minutes of footage can be accessed through the app. The official explained that if the footage is needed for a longer period, the investigator must submit another request.

The app is already being used by ACPs in Bangalore city. Additional Commissioner of Police Raman Gupta said that after receiving feedback and analyzing the pros and cons, there are plans to allow all policemen to use this app in the coming days.
