Bengaluru to Begin 150 km White Topping Project: Check Out the Roads Set for a Makeover

Bengaluru, July 03, 2024: Corporation officials are gearing up to undertake a major white topping project on a 150 km stretch of road under the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP). Preparations are in full swing, with work set to commence soon after the Bhoomi Puja. An inter-departmental coordination meeting was held on Tuesday to discuss the project’s implementation.

Project Overview

BBMP Chief Commissioner Tushar Girinath addressed the meeting, highlighting that the white topping work will be carried out in 15 packages, of which 13 have already been finalized. Contractors have been appointed, and the remaining two packages are awaiting government approval. “Bhoomi Puja will be held soon, and all preparations should be made,” instructed Girinath.

Coordination and Survey

Officials were instructed to conduct site surveys and submit reports regarding existing infrastructure such as water and sewerage pipes, BESCOM and KPTCL cables, and gas pipelines. Any necessary changes should be made promptly to avoid disruptions once the white topping work begins. Utility ducts will be installed on both sides of the road, as no permissions will be granted to dig up the road post-completion.

Traffic Management

To facilitate the white topping work, traffic routes will be adjusted in coordination with the traffic police department. Measures will be taken to minimize disruptions to vehicular traffic. The project will be executed step-by-step within the stipulated time frame, allowing traffic to flow as efficiently as possible.

Project Scope and Budget

The white topping work, spanning 150 km, will be completed within a set time frame, with work continuing day and night. BBMP Chief Engineer Prahlad emphasized the need for traffic police officers to identify and facilitate alternative routes in the affected areas. The project, with an estimated cost of Rs. 900 crores, will cover various zones including:

  • Eastern Zone: 25 km
  • Western Zone: 17.28 km
  • Southern Zone: 10.7 km
  • Yelahanka Zone: 9.2 km
  • RR Nagar Zone: 8.88 km

Key Roads for White Topping

Major roads slated for white topping include:

  • MG Road (Mahatma Gandhi Circle to Trinity Circle)
  • Residency Road (Richmond Circle)
  • City Civil Court Road (Mysore Bank Circle-KR Circle)
  • Thimmaiah Road (Niswan School-Kamaraja Road)
  • Atthiguppe 14th Main Road (Card Road-Ganapathy Circle)
  • Vijayanagar TTMC (Vijayanagar Market Signal)
  • Malleswaram Chitrapur Math (8th Main Road to 18th Cross)
  • Sahakar Nagar (20th Cross to Kodigehalli Main Road-Radhakrishna Choultry)

Additionally, white topping work will be carried out on 105 other roads including:

  • Govindaraja Nagar Sarvajna School Signal Junction (Raheja Apartment)
  • Jayanagar 22nd Cross Road (3 Block Junction-Cool Joint)
  • Bull Temple Road (Rayan Circle-5th Main Road)
  • Race Course Road (Maurya Junction-Harekrishna Junction)
