Satellite Town Ring Road Nears Completion, Set to Operate by February 2024

Satellite Town Ring Road: Bangalore’s Tumkur Road is always jammed with heavy vehicles. Not only that, the airport road and the highway link roads are also congested, often facing traffic jams due to heavy vehicular traffic. However, commuters can now bypass the city with the ongoing ‘Satellite Town Ring Road’ (STRR) construction project targeted for completion by the end of the year.

Bengaluru, November, 30: The work on the highway ‘Satellite Town Ring Road’ (STRR) connecting the major towns of Bengaluru city is going on due to drought and the construction work of an 80 km long road was supposed to be completed by the end of this year. However, only the 38 km long road between Doddaballapur-Hosakote is open for vehicular traffic.

In the 1st package, the 42 km stretch between Dabaspet and Doddaballapur Bypass is 85% complete and is set to open by February 2024. Developed by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), this road connects the northern and eastern parts of Bangalore.

Once STRR is fully completed, freight vehicles entering Bangalore via Tumkur road are expected to significantly reduce by diverting heavy vehicles from the city. This is especially beneficial for those going to Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) and heavy vehicles going to Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, or KIA cargo terminals. This route provides direct connectivity to Devanahalli and Hoskote bypassing the city.

Despite initial delays due to factors such as heavy rains, construction has picked up speed. The 38 km road from Dabaspet to Devanahalli-Hosakote has already been commissioned and the remaining 42 km will be completed by February 2024, NHAI project director KB Jayakumar said.

Having personally witnessed the progress of STRR, I can attest to the rapid development of vehicles already in use from the Doddballapur bypass to the Hoskote section. MP PC Mohan said that the project would bring potential relief by preventing heavy vehicles from entering the city and easing traffic congestion.
