Yesterday a young woman was molested while boarding the metro at Rajajinagar metro station. The incident took place after the accused immediately screamed and was caught by the security guards and handed over to the police.
BENGALURU, Dec 08: The alarming trend of increasing cases of sexual harassment of women passengers in the Namma metro system has raised concerns. The latest incident happened around 9:40 am on Thursday near Rajajinagar station where a young IT employee was harassed.
The victim, who was a regular commuter, boarded the metro at Rajajinagar station. It is said that during the journey, accused Lokesh, 30, touched the body of the young woman and the victim screamed for help.
Metro security officers Puttamadiah and Assistant Security Officer Diwakar quickly intervened and caught Lokesh before he could escape and handed him over to the Upparapet police.
When Lokesh investigated the background, a history of previous crimes including a case of mobile theft from a young woman in a BMTC bus was revealed. In this case, the authorities seized 20 mobile phones and a two-wheeler from Lokesh.

Yashwant Chauhan, Chief Public Relations Officer of BMRCL emphasized that the safety of women passengers has been given top priority. Confirming that Lokesh was immediately arrested and handed over to the police, he reiterated that strict action would be taken against those who disturb women passengers.

The incident follows earlier cases including the alleged sexual harassment of a college girl in a crowded metro on November 20. Similarly, on September 9, a 20-year-old college student filed a complaint of sexual harassment.
Officials are working diligently to resolve these issues and ensure the safety of all metro passengers, he said
