Crowds from different places eagerly awaited the Whitefield-bound train at the Swami Vivekananda Road Metro station on Saturday. Social media shared pictures of crowded platforms at stations, especially the Baiyappanahalli Metro station which serves as a depot, making it challenging for commuters to access the platforms.

The viral photos have prompted netizens to analyze the situation, revealing that the surge occurred as the station is a critical point for commuters looking for trains to Whitefield. Notably, the Purple Line has been experiencing heavy traffic lately, with regular inflows to places like Whitefield, MG Road, KR Puram, Indira Nagar, and Majestic.

During peak hours, the frequency of trains from Whitefield to Mysore Road is usually every three minutes. Congestion increases at Majestic Junction, where Green Line passengers transfer to the Purple Line. On Saturday evening, there was a traffic jam on Swami Vivekananda Road due to the increase in the number of passengers.

The growing number of metro users, especially on the Purple Line, has created demands for increased train frequency and additional carriages to accommodate the surge. Currently, Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation (BMRCL) operates about 57 trains, more than half of which serve the Purple Line.
