“Bangalore-Chennai Expressway Nearing Completion: Final Phase of Construction at a Cost of 17 Thousand Crores”

Bangalore-Chennai Expressway: The 262 km long Bangalore-Chennai Expressway (National Express 7) is being constructed in three phases. This work has reached the final stage and if the Bangalore-Chennai Expressway project is completed, the current 6 to 7 hours travel time will be reduced to 2 to 3 hours, the report said.

In addition to this development, the government has recently released comprehensive guidelines for the construction of expressways and national highways, which is an indication of greater safety for commuters, the report explained.

Approved by Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari, the guidelines have been designed with global-level studies. The expressway will help provide clear visibility and guidance to drivers without any distractions, a Transport Ministry release said.

The greenfield corridor is a major infrastructure investment aimed at enhancing connectivity and economic development between Bengaluru and Chennai at an estimated cost of Rs 17,000 crore.

A multilingual approach has been adopted in the Expressway. It contains information in English and regional languages. The move will help in better communication and awareness among motorists, the release said.

Union Minister Nitin Gadkari inspected the work on the Bengaluru Chennai Expressway in January 2023 through an aerial survey. According to the report, the route is likely to be opened for traffic in October 2024.
